In Michigan, county seats serve as the "home site" for county government. At the county seat, interested parties can obtain information about governing bodies and local policy issues. Other resources offered may include, but are not limited to, information about real estate and property, pet registration, deeds, licenses, recycling, and community services.

The Cover Map for this map series shows the location of 13 SW Michigan county seats. A direct link to county profiles hosted by Michigan Economic Development Corporation [MEDC] provide government statistics about a community's economic base, population trends, labor force, per capita income, education levels, transportation links, housing, property tax, major industries, industrial parks, newspapers, schools, colleges, hospitals, churches, financial institutions, utilities, telecommunications, landfills, recreation, climate, and local government telephone numbers. A wealth of information collected by Uncle Sam.

There are currently 52 maps in this series representing 13 SW Michigan counties; each county has four different representative map versions (Types A thru D). County map versions differ in image size (or scale) and image content (or layers).

These 52 maps serve as a reference base to illustrate the political boundaries of SW Michigan. They were created using the TIGER Mapping Service sponsored by the US Census Bureau. All map types (A thru D) show county boundaries, water, cities, major highways and latitude/longitude grid. Map types "B" and "D" include streets. Map types "C" and "D" will fit on a single page. These 52 maps are not regarded as "value added" and are public domain. They hold no copyright and can be downloaded and used for reference on your web pages. This series was initially compiled to provide a means by which SW Michigan could be represented as a region in a common format. We believe that these maps are particularly valuable as a common reference grid by which future regional and local maps can be linked.
