The Michigan Big Tree Hunt
seeks to identify the largest known representative
- or "Champion" - tree of its species.
There are 37 State Champion Trees for the thirteen county region of SW Michigan. Of these, 15 are in the National Register of Big Trees. Ten of the 37 champions are noted in the State Listing of Champion Trees as an "exotic or planted species". Kalamazoo County leads the count with eight champion trees.
